What to do after a crash
See a doctor, even if you feel fine
Neck and back injuries often produce no symptoms for several days. A gap between the crash and your first visit is the first thing an adjuster will use against you.
Photograph everything
Both vehicles, where they came to rest, the street, and any visible injury. Do it before the cars are moved if you safely can.
Get the report number
Ask the responding officer how to obtain a copy, and write the number down before you leave the scene.
Do not give a recorded statement to the other driver's insurer
You are not required to. Those calls are recorded to find inconsistencies in how you describe your injuries, and they usually come within a day or two of the crash.
Talk to a lawyer before you accept anything
Early offers arrive before anyone knows how badly you are hurt. Once you sign a release the claim is closed, even if you need surgery later.
